I was promoted into the big role.
On paper, I was ready. I had done the roles leading up to it and understood the business well. I knew the work.
But this was different.
Now I was in the driver’s seat.
People who had been my peers were now reporting to me. That shift was harder than I expected, for me and for them. I made missteps. I was figuring it out as I went.
Suddenly, I was operating in a much more visible role where my decisions carried more weight and my voice mattered in different ways.
And even though I had earned the role, everything felt unfamiliar.
My influence was expanding faster than my confidence could catch up.
This doesn’t always look the way people expect.
You’ve already proven yourself. You’ve delivered. You’ve earned trust. That’s what led you here.
And now, something has shifted.
You’re more visible. You’re being asked to lead in ways you haven’t before.
Expectations feel different. The work is familiar in some ways, and new in others. You’re making decisions you haven’t had to make before. Having conversations you didn’t anticipate. Letting go of things you used to own.
Part of you knows you can do this.
And another part is still catching up to the reality that this is now your role.
That’s what creates the stretch.
That’s what can shake your confidence, even when nothing is actually wrong.
That’s the Rising Leader archetype.

Here’s what often gets in the way:
You think you need to feel fully confident before you lead at this level.
So you hesitate.
You overthink decisions. You second-guess your voice. You look for signals that you’re doing it “right.”
All while already being in the role.
A small shift

What if stepping into the role is what builds it?
Not perfectly or all at once, but through showing up, making decisions, and learning as you go.
