This Is Work I Know From The Inside

This is What I Want for You

The messy middle shows up differently for everyone.

For some it’s the weight of carrying too much for too long. For others it’s the quiet depletion of showing up while something inside is running on empty. Sometimes it’s a dream that keeps getting deferred, or success that no longer feels like enough, or a new role that stretches confidence in ways no one prepared you for. Sometimes it’s simply standing between chapters, not lost, just between.

If any of that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

I’ve been in every one of those seasons myself. Not all at once, but across a 35-year career in media, including nearly 20 years at Smithsonian Enterprises and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, along with leadership roles at other major media companies, I’ve lived the full range. That’s not a credential. It’s a promise that I’m not going to hand you a framework from the outside. I know this terrain because I’ve walked it.

The six archetypes emerged from that experience, and from years of working with people navigating the same seasons. They are not a diagnosis. They are a language. And having language for where you are changes everything.

From Living It to Coaching It

Coaching found me the way most meaningful things do, through lived experience rather than a planned path. After 35 years in media, I kept seeing the same seasons show up in the people around me and kept thinking: this doesn’t have to be so hard to navigate alone. In 2023, I launched my practice. The Messy Middle Coach is the natural evolution of that work.

The credentials reflect that commitment. PCC from the International Coaching Federation, CPCC from PARWCC, CPQC in Positive Intelligence. My own consistent growth enables me to better support others’ growth.

My approach moves through five phases: Discover, Recalibrate, Embody, Act, and Expand. Each phase builds on the one before it, helping you move from where you are now to who you’re becoming. You can see the full process in the video on the Coaching page.

What I Believe

Messy seasons are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are signals that something new is emerging.

Most people I work with are not lacking motivation or capability. They are lacking language, clarity, and space. Once they have those things, everything shifts.

I also believe that when we move through hard seasons with intention, we build a muscle. A muscle that makes the next messy middle a little less frightening and a lot more navigable.

These seasons don’t always feel good. But every messy middle is an invitation to grow.

You are the most worthwhile project you will ever work on.
